Here's some hot news for those who's wondering how soon Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S3 will get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update that debuted at the Google I/O 2012 developer conference on Wednesday.
The guys over at The Verge have gained some new information from 'a trusted source' who claims that last minute adjustments were made to the Galaxy S3 handsets specs in some markets to "future-proof" the handset in readiness for the new operating system.
Additionally the source revealed that Samsung probably "didn't want to be left flat-footed" at a time when a new Android version was expected to be released just days after the Galaxy S3's U.S. launch.
Given that, Samsung's engineers were not "100 percent sure" of the Jelly Bean's hardware requirements would be, so they decided to push up the internal RAM to 2GB from 1GB.
The report also added that "Our source isn't aware of Samsung's specific plans for upgrading any version of the Galaxy S3 to Jelly Bean yet, but by all appearances, the hardware is more than ready to accept it (let's not forget that the nearly two-year-old Nexus S is already signed up for an update)."
The US version of Galaxy S3 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU with 2GB of internal RAM, instead of 1.4GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor (global version).
With a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display, the device comes packed with 4G (a.k.a. LTE and HSPA+) capabilities, offering 16GB or 32GB worth of internal storage that can be expanded via microSD. S3 also feature 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, a 2,100mAh removable battery. The smartphone comes flavored with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and TouchWiz UI overlay.
The new phone hosts plethora of software features such as S Voice and S Beam, with the former allowing users to execute commands via their voice and with the latter allowing for quick file sharing just by touching devices.
