Directors Of Naughty Dog Games Reveal Their Top Picks For 2016; 'The Last Guardian,' 'Inside' Bag Number Ones
Arianne GiftTo be good at making games means the maker knows more than a thing or two about playing them. This is exactly the case for Naughty Dog directors Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley. Both having their signatures cemented in "The Last of Us" and "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End," Druckmann and Straley revealed their favorite 2016 games.
Speaking to Game Informer, Druckmann gave his number one pick to "The Last Guardian. "My GOTY... By the end of the journey I was wiping away tears - the first time that has ever happened to me in a video game," the director was quoted as saying. Druckmann's second favorite game of 2016 is "Inside," followed by "Super Mario Run," "Rez Infinite" and then "Dishonored 2."
Meanwhile, Straley's top game for 2016 was "Inside," boldly adding it might be in his top five of all time. "'Inside,' for me, was the perfect concert of all the tools we have at our disposal as developers to make something truly artful and inspired. It's probably in my Top 5 of all time," he said. Rounding up his list are "Budget Cuts," "Thumper," "The Lab" and "Grow Up."
Both Naughty Dog directors have taken a liking to Playdead's "Inside;" the puzzle-platformer adventure that took home The Game Award for Best Independent Game and Best Art Direction. Coincidentally, "Inside" beat Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4" on the Best Art Direction category in the 2016 Game Awards.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, several developers revealed their most anticipated games of 2017 and beyond. Founder of Quantic Dream David Cage gave his vote to Media Molecule's "Dreams." Overall, "Red Dead Redemption 2" and "Horizon Zero Dawn" got the most attention from the interviewed developers.
Both Druckmann and Straley directed "The Last of Us," but only Druckmann is currently involved in its sequel, "The Last of Us 2," which is slated to release exclusively on PS4 next year. Straley is currently on sabbatical.
