After Xbox 720, Pachter Talks About Wii U: Says "It Isn't Going to Work"

After getting unveiled at the E3 consumer show 2012, Nintendo Wii U has received mixed reviews so far. Some analysts believe that it is going to be a big hit, while others doubt the success of the upcoming gaming console, with Michael Pachter being one of them.

In an interview with Edge Magazine at a developer conference, Wedbrush Securities analyst Michael Pachter said that Nintendo's next generating gaming console "isn't going to work".

"I think that essentially this is a solution in search of a problem. I mean, somebody had an idea - 'let's make the controller a tablet' - and there aren't many games that are going to take advantage of that," Pachter said. "I don't think they suck - I just think that they really believe that, 'If we're still novel, everything we do will work'. This isn't going to work."

Pachter does not stop the Wii U denouncement here. He went on to talk about the Wii U controller, claiming that Call of Duty maker Activision clearly told Nintendo that it will never publish any game title for the console unless the company creates the Wii U Pro controller for playing in more like a traditional style.

"Activision never said anything to me, but I know that [for] big games like Call Of Duty they said, 'No, we're not putting it on there if you don't give us a conventional controller'. So they gave in," he added.

Wii U is slated to release by the end of this year. Nintendo is yet to disclose any price tag but that hasn't stopped speculations from running rife. According to an earlier report, Wii U is "99% likely" to cost under $400.

Not a long time, the Pachter had also commented on Microsoft's next generation console - the Xbox 720, which is expected to release in 2013. He claimed that the upcoming gaming console can cost as low as $100, but on a contract with TV service providers.

With the aging Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 nearing their end, it is likely that post its debut the Wii U will take over the dominant console mantle. While Sony and Microsoft continue to stay in limbo with their existing consoles, Nintendo can avail of this golden opportunity and upstage its rivals in the imminent console wars.
