"Attack on Titan" Chapter 89 picked up in the prison cell where Hange was teasing Eren about his Assault Titan powers. Shortly after the first scene, Eren, Mikasa and Armin were released to join the rest of the Survey Corps members. Below is a quick recap of what happened next.

Historia was seen reading a letter from Ymir where it was revealed that the Ymir she knew is a woman who didn't know her real name. A little girl pretended to be Ymir thinking that it is what would save people but things got twisted and she was suddenly hated by those who once praised her. The letter seems to mean nothing to the Survey Corps as it only revealed Ymir's backstory.

And for the climax of Chapter 89, the Survey Corps held a meeting with the nine remaining members of its group, which highlighted the power of the original Titan also called as the Coordinate. The power could only be fully utilized by a royal family member. Additionally, the new host of the Coordinate would also inherit the ideology of the 145th king that involves his "oath to renounce war."

The said oath was a puzzle to Kruger in the past but now, Hange claimed that the ideology will possess the new host causing him/her to killing or hurting himself as a result of the oath. That said, even if a royal possesses the Coordinate, they still cannot win the war because of the 145th king's oath. However, they are still puzzled why Eren was able to use the power in the past during an encounter with Titans.

This made Eren remember a royal family member, Dina Fritz, who he touched at the time he was able to control the other Titans. Because of this, Eren secretly theorized that holding or making contact with a royal would allow him to use the Coordinate. He chose not to disclose the information during the meeting as his theory is not proven yet, however.

Interestingly, "Attack on Titan" Chapter 89 ended with a major cliffhanger showing a conversation between Kruger and Grisha where the Owl advised the latter to find someone to love inside the walls to save Armin, Mikasa and the rest of his people. Armin and Mikasa are from the present timeline so how did Kruger know their names in the past?
