NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Release Date Set March 2017; Most Advanced Graphics Card Boasts GDDRX5 Type RAM
Vinay PatelMultiple sources suggested that Nvidia would introduce a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2017. But much to the dismay of those restlessly waiting for it, the Las Vegas event concluded without shedding more light on the much-awaited graphics card. Now, there's hearsay that Nvidia would unveil the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti at PAX East 2017.
If recently surfaced reports are anything to go by, Nvidia is still likely to launch the much-lauded card in March this year. It's worth noting that the US-based GPU designer has not yet linked a release date or associated any timeframe for the card to be launched; however, according to a report from HotHardware, a rep at the MSI booth gave insight about when the card is likely to arrive in the market.
Although Nvidia has not yet confirmed the launch date for GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, the company hinted that the card is definitely in the offing via a job listing that was posted last month for the position of a Senior Marketing Manager. The said job listing summarized a slew of specific duties the selected applicant would have to handle. The duties encompassed ensuring that GeForce GTX 980 Ti graphics card owners get priority in line for GeForce GTX 1080 Ti pre-orders.
Furthermore, the MSI representative confirmed that the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is indeed in the works and MSI along with other board partners are gearing up to launch it sometime around PAX East 2017 -- a series of gaming festivals which started back in 2004. This year the event kicks off March 10. The upcoming event will take place at Boston and will wrap up March 12.
Based on the Nvidia's Pascal architecture, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is one of the most awaited graphic cards by avid gamers. The GTX 1080 will employ a marginally overhauled variant of GP102 chip powering the Nvidia Titan X.
Moreover, the impending card is likely to boast 12 billion transistors compared to 7.2 billion on the GTX 1080. But that's not all; the RAM is also expected to be increased by 4GB than on the GTX 1080 mounting up to a colossal 12GB. Aside from that, it will boast a GDDRX5 type RAM, which is a higher bandwidth variant of the regular GDDR, according to TrustedReviews.
Furthermore, the bus width will be increased by 384 bits, raising the peak bandwidth to 480GB/s. The upcoming card will come with 3328 CUDA cores, and Nvidia has reportedly marked up the base clock speed to 1503MHz. The NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti will be up for grabs for less than $900 when it hits the store shelves.
