Nintendo Switch Review: Nintendo’s Latest Innovative Hybrid Console And Its New Online Service
Cris Xander JulianoGamers wait for the official March 3 release date of the Nintendo Switch. It may seem like a long wait, but eager fans can first take a look at its hands on review by T3 during its press event in London England where only selected members of the media are invited to try out the new hybrid console.
Console and Dock
Picking up the console felt it was well-built with its cold metal and glass making it solid in the hands. The dock itself is not that heavy but not light enough to make it feel like it's cheap. Taking the console out from its dock is very smooth as the screen switches instantaneously from one to the other. Users are very unlikely to scratch the screen whenever they take out or insert the console to its dock.
Joy-con and Pro Controllers
The joy-con comes with the bundle upon purchasing the unit and the Pro controller is sold separately. The Joy-con controllers are attached to the sides of the Switch where it can also be detached and can be used much like a Nintendo Wii remote as each has its own accelerometer and gyroscope and a haptic feedback that the company refer to as HD Rumble. Meanwhile, the Pro controller is a more traditional gamepad.
Overall Hands on Impressions
The Nintendo Switch has succeeded where the Wii U have failed with its three very practical ways of playing games; Playing the console on a TV, taking it out to play on-the-go and detaching each controller to play with a friend for table top mode. It would also be interesting to know how much third-party support it will receive as it can significantly increase its library of games in the near future.
In addition, the console is reportedly going to have a new online service called "Nintendo Switch Online Service," according to Business Insider. The said service will have a monthly subscription fee, which is the first for Nintendo as it offered online services before but without any charges.
The online service will start at the launch of the Nintendo Switch on March 3, 2017.
