Tesla Autopilot Speed Limit Lifted Even For Undivided Highways; Over-The-Air Update Includes Additional Safety Controls
Ritwik RoyTesla has lifted the restriction on speed limit when using the Autopilot mode in Tesla electric vehicles (EVs). This hard limit was placed not very long ago after reports of abuse and misuse became viral on YouTube. Prior to the restriction, drivers were allowed to go five miles per hour over the speed limit on undivided highways. Now, drivers will again be able to cruise above the speed limit even on Autopilot mode.
The reason why Tesla removed the cap was rampant complaints on social media by Tesla owners who demanded the feature back as they paid for it. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed the removal of the speed limit via Twitter. The reply was an answer to a question asked on Reddit. In order to reduce the possibility of a car accident when on Autopilot mode, Tesla has sent an over-the-air update that includes additional safety controls.
According to Tech Times, it will be interesting to see now how Tesla balances user experience and safety concerns. The Tesla Model S P100D's software has also been updated to include the Ludicrous+ mode that will enable the vehicle to go from 0 to 60mph in just 2.4 seconds. Coming back to the speed limit cap on the Autopilot mode, certain owners started misusing the mode and even posted videos on YouTube. People soon started questioning the risk involved in driving Tesla vehicles.
The Tesla Autopilot function was meant to be used only on divided highways. However, owners started using them on undivided highways, performing a slew of stunts that were being recorded on cams. This did not go down well with Musk who imposed the cap on the Autopilot speed limit. This, however, resulted in tremendous opposition from fans and Musk has now been forced to remove the cap. Stay tuned on Mobile & Apps for more information on Tesla Autopilot feature.
