Google Might Bring Its Android One Platform To The US
Cris Xander JulianoIt is rumored that Google might bring its Android One platform to the US that is aimed to standardize low-cost phones, according to Engadget. It is expected that at least one device should come out in the first half of this year. This is certainly good news for Android users, but are not willing to spend top dollar for a premium device.
Android One is already available in other countries like India, Spain and Portugal to name a few. The device sells for as low as $100 as it's categorized in the mid-range phones. A big advantage though is that it's one of the first devices to receive the latest updates for Google like the Nexus series, only cheaper. In addition, Android is represented from the device in its purest form, which means less bloatware.
According to CNet, Google has partnered with other countries' local manufacturer like Micromax, which created the Micromax Canvas, and with Karbonn, the maker of KArbonn Sparkle V, under the Android One program. It is not mentioned however, if Google will partner with popular brands in the US like HT, although LG is a potential partner, or perhaps it would only attach its name to the project like it did with the Pixel smartphones.
The new devices from Google are rumored to be in the $200 to $300 range. The price is a bit higher than the ones released in other countries but it is still considered to be low-cost compared to the high-end smartphones available in the US. More devices could follow after the initial release of the first Android One smartphone.
