'League of Legends' Tournament Underway and Will be Televised by Big Networks

US Big Ten Network Conference Will Broadcast a ‘League of Legends’ Tournament

Electronic Sports are now having its momentum, gaining millions of fans and followers all over the world. This month, Big Ten Network will start to televise an E-Sports tournament composed of 12 to 14-member schools that will compete in an online battle of strategic multiplayer game "League of Legends."

Esport are now one of the biggest and fast growing industry in this generation. Plenty of people are now invested interests in computer games, either playing PC or a console. With this, big Network industries are now trying to collaborate with the Gaming industries for the benefits of a big outcome.

Sports broadcasters, game developers and stockholders of several traditional pro league sports are now progressively aware of its big live entertainment that has brought to the television. Networks such as ESPN, Time Warner Inc.'s and Walt Disney Company are now taking their time to telecasts various E-Sports events. 

According to Wall Street Journal, Activate Inc. has estimated that E-Sports can gain up to 10 percent of the U.S. sports viewership by 2020- an estimated 88 million fans watching E-Sports on television. Amazon.com Inc.'s Twitch and Alphabet Inc.'s YouTube are now broadcasting live services of "League of Legends" international tournaments.

The Big Ten Tournament is scheduled to begin this January 30, 2017, which collaborates with the conference and the developer, Riot Games. State Universities such as Wisconsin, Rutgers, Purdue, Northwestern, Minnesota, Michigan, Maryland, Iowa, Indiana and Illinois are slated to participate in the upcoming tournament.

Only one team per university is allowed in the tournament. Each competing team has a manager and a coach along with the six players to play. Every student will be given $5,000 as scholarship money, according to Riot Games. Universities will be divided into two divisions, the East and the West. All tournament matches will be broadcasted live every Monday and can be replayed via streaming through the network's app.

The unbeatable teams from each division will clash at the tournament's final game. The winner of the "League of Legends" Finals will go forward and advance to a collegiate international tournament sponsored by Riot Games.
