Game Review: 'Nioh' 'Last Chance Trial' Presents ‘Interesting’ Combat

Gamers are eagerly awaiting the launch of "Nioh," which is slated for a February release. Team Ninja's action role-playing game (RPG) for the PlayStation 4 has also released a "Last Chance Trial" to whet the players' appetites until the game is released.

According to Irrelevant Gamer, Team Ninja's action RPG "Nioh" plays like a "Dark Souls" game but with a samurai twist. "Last Chance Trial," the third demo for the PS4, was released on Jan. 23. Despite being set in feudal Japan, players will be battling both normal humans and demons in "Nioh."

While fighting enemies in Team Ninja's "Nioh," players can alternate between three stances. High stance deals more damage, middle stance is "balanced between offense and defense," and low stance is used for dodging, parrying, and conserving ki (stamina).

The review states that while combat in "Nioh" can be a bit "static," the looting and crafting aspect of the game is promising. However, crafting can be tiresome as the blacksmithing system requires several materials. Team Ninja's "Nioh" has a "deep" level of customization that "requires a firm understanding of what you want to accomplish."

Gamers who love looting and crafting will enjoy trying to collect materials as they create the "ultimate ninja." Meanwhile, those who opt not to invest too much time in crafting can also find good weapons and armors that can be dropped by enemies.

"Nioh's" graphics leave much to be desired, and the action RPG was given a 4.5/10 graphics rating. Team Ninja's upcoming game has graphics that is comparable to "a PS2 game that got an HD remake on the PS3."

The action RPG's difficulty seems to vary depending on where you are in the demo. In one on one fights, enemies go down quickly but being forced to battle two enemies at once proves to be a challenge.

Meanwhile, IGN has revealed that gamers who checked out the "Nioh" "Last Chance Trial" can receive loot that will carry over to the full version of the action RPG. If you finish the trial's main mission, you can unlock the Ogress Headgear.

Players who completed the Twilight Mission can receive the Mark of the Conqueror and Mark of the Strong DLC packs that will allegedly come with multiple items. Be sure to keep your game save until Team Ninja's "Nioh" is launched for the PS4 next month.
