Samsung Galaxy S8 Huge Design Overhaul Presents Some Questionable Usability Issues
Arianne GiftThe year 2016 started out promising for Samsung, with the Galaxy S7 series earning praises and huge commercial success. However, the company's direction headed south upon reports of battery fires, leading to the cancellation of the Galaxy Note 7. After the unforgettable catastrophe, what should fans expect in the next Samsung flagship -- the Galaxy S8?
The leak of the first live images of the Samsung Galaxy S8, courtesy of the ever vigilant Evan Blass at Venture Beat, has raised some questions. Despite the obvious familiar traits, the Galaxy S8 appears to have the biggest design makeover since the GS6. The new flagship phone is an 18.5.9, sans the home key; and the new Bixby AI has its own special button on the side.
Although merely leaks, one can't help but question the quirks added to the Galaxy S8, like the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. Sure, other devices already have that by way of a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, but on the S8 it's way up top to the right of the camera lens.
Consider that the smaller of these two has a 5.8-inch display, and the larger an enormous 6.2-inch screen. Even if, as rumored, the footprint isn't considerably larger than current 5.1- to 5.5-inchers, that's an awfully long way to reach, especially for lefties.
According to Android Central, the new Samsung Galaxy S8 is an effort to provide convenience in terms of gesture support. Possibly, features like raise-to-wake, double-tap to wake and others that are sensor-driven are being pushed, as they had become "increasingly important."
The thing is, nothing could be solidified just yet, and Samsung has the answers come (presumably) March 29. The Galaxy S8's usability features offers something new, triggering a lot of poking heads and confused faces. However, assuming that all of the leaked features and specs are true, Samsung will be bombarded with heaps of questions for sure.
