Zynga and Nokia are joining forces to bring two hit games to a new range of Nokia devices. On Friday, Aug. 17, Nokia announced on its official blog that its popular games Draw Something and Zynga Poker will be available on the Asha Touch later this year.
"It's great to expand our offering of Zynga games to deliver more blockbuster titles across our portfolio of mobile devices," said Bryan Biniak, Nokia's vice president and general manager of Global Partnering and Application Development. "With premium design, powerful hardware and outstanding gaming capabilities, we're redefining what consumers expect from today's feature phone experience."
Zynga has amassed more than 300 million monthly active users due to the release of wildly popular Facebook games FarmVille and CityVille. When it comes to the mobile game space, the company made its debut with several titles for Apple's iOS, and later introduced games on Google's Android mobile operating system and Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 as well.
Zynga announced several new games back in June, including The Ville, Elite Slots, Matching with Friends, and Bubble Safari, its first real-time multiplayer game. Zynga's shares, however, continue to decline, as traders are concerned with the company's business model and disappointing guidance, which proved significantly lower than investors had anticipated.
Moreover, Zynga is once again the target of litigation over its games. Electronic Arts (EA) sued Zynga on Aug. 3 over the release of The Ville, claiming that the game copied key elements of EA's Facebook game The Sims Social. Fortunately for Zynga, The Ville was successful among consumes despite the litigation. According to the AppData leaderboard, The Ville currently ranks as the top Facebook game with more than 58 million monthly active users. Meanwhile, the Sims Social comes in on No. 20 with 16.5 million active users.
Investors, however, remain concerned about Zynga's future. Such concerns were further deepened when Amazon announced it was launching a new development studio, aiming to design games for social networks. Living Classics, Amazon's first title, is considered a unique but flawed hidden object game. Zynga's games are also widely considered flawed clones of other products.
