Don’t Uninstall Your Google Now Launcher From Your Android Device As Google Plans To Kill The App From Google Play Store
Cris Xander JulianoThe Google Now Launcher is one of the most popular launchers being used by Android owners for a fast and clean home screen. Unfortunately, it was learned that Google plans to kill the said launcher in the coming weeks, according to Android Police. For those who haven't able to download and install the launcher, you have until March 1 to do so.
Once the launcher is removed from the Play Store, the app won't be available for download anymore. However, Google will still continue to support existing users by updating the Google Search app.
Google have sent an email to Android smartphone manufacturers and explained that certain features for the Google Now Launcher will be transferred to the new Search Launcher Services which was in a testing phase until now. Manufacturers may now be able to develop their own launchers with Google Now capabilities.
According to Mobipicker, the launcher has two main parts; the Google Now, which is the one wherein users are allowed to swipe right and access the Google Now card, and the Launcher, which is the screen wherein users can put widgets, icons and folders.
The good news is Google still has the Pixel Launcher, although the same is only available for Pixel-branded devices. Hopefully, the Pixel Launcher may hit other devices in the future with all its wonderful features.
There are lots of other launchers available in the Play Store today, but the Google Now Launcher is arguably the cleanest and cheapest way to experience a buttery smooth Android without the phone manufacturers' signature skins.
