Pokemon Go Plus VS Apple Watch App: Which One Can Really Catch ‘Em All? [VIDEO]

Rei Lantion

It's been over six months since the release of the hugely popular augmented reality game, "Pokemon GO." The hype may not be what it was during the first month or so following the launch, but the craze hasn't died down.

If anything, the introduction of wearable options for "Pokemon GO" may have reignited fans' interest. It's the battle of the wearables as we compare the "Pokemon Go Plus" to Apple Watch's "Pokemon GO" app.

Pokemon Go Plus

Released for most countries back in September 16, the "Pokemon GO Plus" accessory makes it possible to play "Pokemon GO" without bringing out your smartphone. Simply strap it on, connect it to your handset via Bluetooth Smart and start walking.

According to Tech Times, the accessory will light up and vibrate every time you go by a PokeStop or you come across a Pokemon. Spinning a PokeStop or catching a Pokemon is as easy as pressing the button in the middle. Unfortunately, you can't see the Pokemon you're about to catch. You're simply notified that there is one in the vicinity, and you can choose to blindly throw a Pokeball or not.

Apple Watch App

If you own the Apple Watch Series 2, you can download and install the "Pokemon GO" app for free. A lot of the features on the watch app are similar to the smartphone app, such as swiping across the screen to spin PokeStops and getting a detailed list of Pokemon near you.

However, perhaps the biggest drawback to the watch app is the inability to catch Pokemon on it. According to Tech Radar, you have to pull out your iPhone, open the app, and catch the Pokemon as you normally would.

Pros and Cons

If you don't own either wearables, the "Pokemon GO Plus" is an obvious winner for price, retailing at $35. The Apple Watch Series 2 retails for $269. In terms of catching Pokemon, the winner is a little less clear-cut.

If you just want to catch Pokemon to build your Pokedex or get candies, the "Pokemon GO Plus" is for you. However, if you want to actually see what you're getting, the "Pokemon GO"Apple Watch app might be more on your speed.
