'Death Stranding' Creator Hideo Kojima Talks About His Career & Why He Stopped Making Horror Games
Nicole T.Hideo Kojima has long been a household name in the gaming industry. He worked with Konami before and created the "Metal Gear" series. However, he left the company and started his own. Yet what else do we know about the "Death Stranding" creator?
In an interview with IGN, Hideo Kojima talked about indie games. He said that games that were developed by indie game developers are interesting. However, Kojima was more interested in how their games give a sense of who the creator was and their sensibilities.
Kojima revealed that he creates his own game and do many different things on his own. He has written, produced, designed, developed and all that for games. With that, he feels as though he is like an indie game developer as well.
Kojima has also revealed that he had always wanted to be an auteur ever since he began his career.
"When I was a child, I watched movies by Alfred Hitchcock and John Carpenter," Hideo Kojima said. "At the beginning of their movies, they would always have a subtitle on the screen that said, 'A movie by Alfred Hitchcock,' or, 'A movie by John Carpenter.'"
That was how he came up with the idea to put his name on the games he created. During his early gaming career years, nobody does that. However, he wanted to give fans a sign of his games and so he started putting his name.
Besides his new game, "Death Stranding," Hideo Kojima rose to fame for "Metal Gear." He has also worked with "Silent Hill," one of the horror games that set up the bar high for the genre. If Hideo Kojima is capable of creating such impressive horror games, why aren't there more such games?
Apparently, the "Death Stranding" creator gets scared "very easily" according to TechnoBuffalo. He revealed that although his fear makes it more effective to create horror games, the process gives him nightmares.
Hideo Kojima revealed that since the process requires them to constantly imagine terrifying situations, he ended up getting bad dreams. So, that was the main reason why we see no horror games created by Kojima.
