A new feature is coming to Windows 10 and this will delight iOS and Android users since this is a highlight of the two mobile operating systems. This is also said to be part of the Creators Update which Microsoft is unveiling in a few months.

Effective multitasking

Dubbed the "Compact Overlay," the feature which is set to be available for users this April is also tagged as the picture-in-picture offering, The Verge noted. Through this, Windows 10 users can do two tasks at the same time like watching a TV show or video calling while using other applications. Among the applications which has support for this upcoming feature are Skype and Movies & TV.

Now, the feature remains at testing phase as Microsoft is trying out Windows 10 build 15031. This latest update will also include the so-called Dynamic Look feature which pairs a personal computer to a phone then can lock the PC when the phone is not near it.

Similar to normal Windows

In addition, Engadget explained that the Compact Overlay is just the same as the normal Windows and that it would not be difficult for users to adjust to this new feature. However, it noted that it is still unclear whether this Compact Overlay windows can be resized when using other applications.

The picture-in-picture mode is not new to the laptop industry since a similar offering was introduced by Apple for its MacOS. However, it was only made compatible for iTunes and Safari.

Feature improvements expected

Softpedia also mentioned that the Windows 10 Creative Update will have an improved picture-in-picture support as other updates become available for the operating system. App developers can also explore the possibility of having their applications support Compact Overlay.

This is projected to be a big help for Windows users who have multiple tasks to accomplish. It will not only save them time but also a lot of effort in shifting from one window to another.
