Mass Effect 3 For Wii U Same Resolution As Released Console Versions

Jonathan Charles

The news of Trine 2: Director's Cut releasing in a 1080p resolution for Wii U suggested that it might set the precedent for next-generation consoles running at the higher resolution. Fans should probably not jump to that conclusion, however, as developers of the Mass Effect 3 port to Wii U confirmed that the title runs at 720p.

Straight Right is developing the port, and its CEO Tom Crago confirmed the HD resolution. Previous reports suggested that the game would run at 1080p.

The Wii U version of BioWare's RPG includes an exclusive weapon called the Ladon, which allows players to hit up to eight enemies simultaneously as a one-shot skill.

Two comics cover the events of the previous titles, similar to how PlayStation 3 players can recap the events of Mass Effect 2 before playing the closing chapter.

"One of the things we've got the Mass Effect 3 on Wii U is a Dark Horse interactive comic that allows players to play through the first two games through comic screens, just like if you were reading a comic book. You play through the story and it will bring up conversation options that allow you to choose where you want to direct the story," Mass Effect 3 Wii U's external producer Melanie Faulknor said to Polygon in August. Dead Space 3 developers Visceral Games also launched a Dead Space game in comic form, though it did not receive the greatest reception. Choices made in the comics will affect the end-game for Wii U players.

Developers recently spoke to Eurogamer to answer the lingering question "How powerful is Wii U?" The conclusion seemed to be that the console is ahead of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, though the next-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony may make a giant leap that Nintendo will not provide.

Mass Effect 3 Wii U is to be announced, though it could be released alongside Wii U. Nintendo's Sept. 13 event may reveal information on the game's, and Wii U's, release date.
