'Final Fantasy XV' High Frame Rate Mode Receives Criticisms As It Didn't Meet Expectations
Nicole T."Final Fantasy XV" patch 1.05 was released on Monday, February 20 for PlayStation 4 Pro. It was anticipated by fans, knowing it contains the high frame rate mode which promises as high as 60fps. However, a number of gamers aren't happy with the update and criticized Square Enix and the patch due to its poor performance.
Before "Final Fantasy XV" patch 1.05, there were two choices made available on PS4 Pro: the Lite and High modes. The Lite mode runs at 1080p with a solid 30fps rate. Since it has consistency, it has become the recommended option. The High mode offers better texture filtering and shadows according to Polygon, as it boosts the resolution to 1800p. However, it showed an inconsistent frame-pacing, creating a rocky gaming experience.
Apparently, "Final Fantasy XV" patch has removed the recommended option that makes it easier for players to have a smoother gaming experience. This was according to Digital Foundry, who tested the patch. Comments on their video showed players openly disappointed with the update.
"In some ways, patch 1.05 actually feels like a retrograde step as opposed to a desirable upgrade," Digital Foundry report read. Although the Lite option still runs at 1080p, it only runs at around 40 to 50fps; the same rate it was during its release. The High mode is basically the same as it was before.
Eurogamer noted that Xbox One and PS4 provide the best "Final Fantasy XV" experience. Of the two, Xbox One has the most consistent frame rate because of Microsoft's system. Players already have noted some minor frame-pacing issues with PS4. However, the problem with the console is still less pronounced than that of PS4 Pro.
Square Enix has promised more free updates coming to "Final Fantasy XV." It seems like they are also planning on doing an update for the game's Chapter 13 which wasn't really received well.
