'Overwatch' Lore Character Efi Oladele Is Possibly The Creator Of The New 'Overwatch Hero
Keisuke AkioThe new "Overwatch" hero is most probably the creation of the lore character Efi Oladele. More clues and theories point the game's 24th playable hero to be masterpiece of the 11-year old robotics and AI genius.
On February 21, Blizzard launched a puzzling in-game story snippet on the "Overwatch" website. The story is about an interview with a young girl from Numbani named Efi Oladele. The girl was granted a genius grant for her work in robotics and artificial intelligence. The short lore was made by the game's fictional news network Atlas News.
After that story was released, theories about the new "Overwatch" hero started to rise. Generally, all of the theories points to Efi Oladele. However, the young girl is a minor and having her assaulted or shot in the game could get Blizzard into serious trouble. The possibility of her turning up older in the game is already scrapped when lead writer Michael Chu debunked this theory.
One of the most interesting theories about the new "Overwatch hero is that Efi Oladele is its creator. In January 2017, a community post was advertising a leaked upcoming "Overwatch" content. It correctly predicted the Year of the Rooster event for Chinese New Year before Blizzard even announced it. In addition, the post claimed that the next "Overwatch" hero is not Doomfist but a female omnic quadruped called Anchora -- a tank from Numbani.
In "Overwatch," a tank is someone who will protect the team. It connects with Efi Oladele's dream of building something that can keep us safe. In addition, it is spot-on about the fact that both Oladele and Anchora are from Numbani.
Other pieces worth noting include Oladele recognized as a name of the Yoruba people in Africa. In the Yoruba religion, minor gods are called as Orisha. In the "Overwatch" lore post, Efi Oladele was quoted saying that someday she wants to build something that can keep us safe, like the new OR15s. The term OR15 and Orisha seem too close a match to be a coincidence, says Eurogamer.
