‘Killzone 5’ In Development: Dutch Paper Leaks Next Installment? [VIDEO]
Rei LantionThe developer for the "Killzone" series, Guerrilla Games, may be planning the fifth installment soon---or so rumors say. A leading Dutch mainstream tabloid supposedly leaked Guerrilla Games' next project after "Horizon: Zero Dawn," and it's reported to be "Killzone 5." But with "Horizon: Zero Dawn" due out next week on the PlayStation 4, has development for "Killzone 5" already started, or is it planned for further down the pipeline?
'Killzone 5' Announced By Accident?
According to PlayStation Universe, an upcoming Killzone game in development was leaked by the online version of a leading Dutch tabloid, Parool.nl. They evidently ran an article in January this year on the closing of Guerilla Games' Cambridge Studio. PSU reports that a line in the article translates to this: "Guerilla, where 270 people work, was acquired in 2005 by Sony. Now it is working on a new Killzone."
This alone doesn't seem to provide enough substantial enough proof to warrant a game in the works. PSU cites the original source of the news as Twitter user @AlphaFoxWarfare and @KillzoneRocks, evidently being the first ones who found the article. They posted it on Reddit with the caption, "Sony announced a new Killzone and nobody knows about it." It was evidently taken down an hour later.
Conflicting Views
PlayStation Universe suggests the post was taken down in an effort to keep the "Killzone 5" leak from overshadowing the initial launch of "Horizon: Zero Dawn." Gaming Bolt, on the other hand, believes the claim is unsubstantial, and cautions readers to take it with a grain of salt.
According to them, it's reasonable to believe another installment is on the way, as "Killzone" is quite a popular franchise. They also posit that a different studio will be handling "Killzone 5" instead of Guerilla Games. Whether this leak actually bears merit or it's the by-product of mistranslation/misinformation, it would be interesting to see a "Killzone 5" eventually. Without official word, fans will just have to wait and see.
