Contrary to what previous reports have been claiming, Samsung is in no mood to take the wraps off its next -generation Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus flagship smartphones at the looming MWC (Mobile World Congress) event, which kicks off Monday, Feb. 27 in Barcelona.

Multiple sources suggest Samsung will officially announce the highly anticipated smartphones at a special event in April, instead. While it remains to be seen if this comes to fruition, new details about the flagship smartphones have surfaced online giving gadget freaks a brief glimpse at the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus' specs and features.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Specs & Features

The Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone is expected to sport a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM, and the device will be certified to an IP68 Rating, meaning, it can be dunked in 1.5 metres of water for about 30 minutes, and it will be protected against dust ingress, according to a specification sheet by Techno Buffalo.

Other features of the Galaxy S8 include a 12MP dual-pixel camera, 8MP front shooter, an iris scanner, a mammoth 64GB of expandable memory, wireless charging, AKG-tuned bundled earphones, and Samsung Pay.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus Specs & Features

Acclaimed tech tipster Evan Blass recently took to his Twitter handle (@evleaks) to post what looked like an identical spec sheet for the Galaxy S8 Plus flagship smartphone. In his tweet, Blass suggested that the S8 will sport a larger 6.2-inch display, while rest of the features will be a carbon-copy of the Galaxy S8.

Samsung Galaxy S8 & Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus: What To Expect

Deviating from last year's trend, Samsung will be equipping both Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus devices with an identical set of features this year. This is a far cry from the strategy adopted by the South Korean handset maker's rival, Apple. It's worth noting that the Cupertino-based tech firm offers a comparatively better camera on the Plus variant of the iPhone 7 than the regular iPhone 7, compelling buyers to make a compromise if they want to go for a small form factor.

No doubt, Samsung will be taking a rather big step employing such large displays this year. Plus, a slew of leaked images and renders seem to confirm that the devices will have extremely slim bezels. Having said that, it will be interesting to see whether or not a radical shift from a 5.1-inch display of the Galaxy S7 to a 5.8-inch display of the Galaxy S8 will lure the public.
