S. TurlaThe next X-Men movie, which is allegedly titled "X-Men: Supernova," is now rumored to have found it's director. Some sources say that the latest X-Men film will feature Jean Grey and her Dark Phoenix arc.
According to Hypable, "X-Men: First Class" gave Fox the opportunity to showcase "new story lines with familiar characters." The movie has also "opened the door for a variety of spinoff films starring the younger cast" such as Jean Grey, portrayed by Sophie Turner.
Simon Kinberg will reportedly helm the upcoming "X-Men: Supernova" film, per Collider. The director has also allegedly finished writing the screenplay for the movie. The script "does focus on the Dark Phoenix storyline and it's now up to the studio if they'll use his script and if he'll get to direct it." However, for now, there isn't "any information about casting beyond Sophie Turner."
Kinberg is no stranger to the X-Men franchise. The writer and producer has "either written, produced, or been heavily involved with "X-Men: The Last Stand," "X-Men: Days of Future Past," "X-Men: Apocalypse," "Deadpool," "Logan," "Legion," and "New Mutants." Kinberg has also been called the "Kevin Feige of the X-Men universe."
Kinberg is familiar with the characters and their stories, and he has also collaborated with other directors like Bryan Singer, Matthew Vaughn, and Tim Miller. "X-Men: Supernova" will focus on Jean Grey's "downfall as her Dark Phoenix personality takes over and she succumbs to her powers."
Actress Turner also recently revealed that she will soon start filming for the "next X-Men movie." However, the vague statement did not clarify if she meant "New Mutants" or "X-Men: Supernova."
Another X-Men film that is currently in development is "New Mutants," which will be directed by Josh Boone. The "New Mutants" film will "reportedly have a YA tone and feature the mutants Wolfsbane, Magik, Sunspot, Danielle Moonstar, Mirage, and Cannonball." The upcoming film's cast will also include Professor X. Alexandra Shipp's Storm, who was introduced in X-Men: Apocalypse, is also rumored to be part of the film's cast.
