The Smach Z: Ultimate Nintendo Switch Alternative Hopes To Appeal To Gamers When It's Released In May
Ceage SottoThe release of the Nintendo Switch console on March 3 will be one of this year's biggest gaming events. However, an elaborate handheld device is set to shine in May after a series of delays. The Smach Z promises to bring PC gaming on a handheld device -- a first from the world of high-tech gaming.
The team behind the hybrid handheld has faced a series of delays. After relaunching a fundraiser campaign on Indiegogo and Kickstarter, they are ready to go. The Smach Team has now raised more than $1 million on both crowdfunding platforms.
The handheld hybrid PC is a compact gaming rig equipped with powerful hardware. With the Nintendo Switch's appeal, handheld hybrid consoles might become a future trend.
The Smach Z's current benchmarks are better than Nintendo's most prized hybrid game platform."DOTA 2," "The Witcher 2" and "Skyrim" are all running on smooth FPS. Display settings were all set on high with 720p resolution.
Underneath the handheld's body is a combination of powerful hardware. The Smach Z has a 4-core AMD Merlin Falcon RX-421BD processor coupled with a Radeon 800MHz R7 GPU. The Pro version has an 8GB DDR4 2133MHz ram memory, the basic version has 4GB.
Both variants will sport an impressive 6-inch AMOLED touchscreen display. The Pro model also has more connectivity options, with a WiFi and 4G connectivity. It will also sport a 5-megapixel camera.
The Smach Z project first gained recognition on Steam Boy back in 2014. The team behind the hybrid console hopes to bring PC gaming closer to gamers. Amid the handheld's low media coverage, the Smach Team hopes to get more people to invest in the console.
PC purists would want to have an extension of their rigs without the bulk of gaming laptops. With the Smach Z, handheld PC gaming will surely be a reality.
