'Pokémon Go' Update: Niantic Shares New Details on Pokemon Trading System, Feature Likely Released Within the Year
Charles LimNiantic has slowly been added some new content and features to their highly popular augmented reality mobile video game, "Pokémon Go." However, one of the most requested features, an actual trading system, is still nowhere to be found. Trading Pokémon is, of course, one of the hallmarks of the previously released "Pokémon" titles and is understandably a sought after feature for serious "Pokémon Go" players.
According to Polygon, that feature may soon be coming to "Pokémon Go" as indicated by their interview with the game's developers at the recently held 2017 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. During the interview, the development team behind the hit augmented reality video game revealed some details about their plans for the highly requested new feature.
Niantic's senior product manager, Tatsuo Nomura, revealed that the upcoming trading system on "Pokémon Go" will not be as open ended as some people may have thought. Nomura reveals that trading may only be done with other players who are in close proximity, specifically those that are within a 100 miles.
While player interactivity is still the main goal of the new feature, the developers apparently don't want to give players the ability to trade with just anyone around the world. Instead, they want players to be able to trade with people they know or those that live close to them. This will likely result in big meet ups and fairs that will encourage people from different regions to attend and trade Pokémon.
The development team also expressed just how important the new system will be within the game, which is why they are taking their time to fully develop the "Pokémon Go" trading system. Nomura even mentions that they could easily "kill the game" should they botch the game's trading system. Based on their progress, it can be assumed that the new "Pokémon Go" trading feature could go live sometime within the year.
