During the MWC 2017, the Blackberry KEYone was officially announced to be released this April and its recent FCC approval made the initial plan's assurance of being on the right track. Unfortunately, the release of the handset is has been delayed.

According to Ubergizmo, Blackberry KEYone is a representation of a mid-range handset that has a physical QWERTY keyboard that is an appealing factor for the blackberry fans. The device is formerly known as Blackberry Mercury.

According to John Chen, CEO of Blackberry, announced during the company's recent fiscal earning's call that the Blackberry KEYone will not be released this April but instead on May and production of the handset will not start yet and would only begin at the end of the month.

CEO Chen also added that they have just released two phones or they have helped their partners in launching two phones. One is in Indonesia and the other one is what TLC announced at Mobile World Congress, which came with physical keyboard also for Android. The one in Indonesia is already shipping and the other will start the shipment probably in May.

On the other hand, General Manager of TLC Communication's North America division Steve Cistulli tweeted that the production of the handset is already underway. He confirmed the delay in the release of the handset and hopefully it will be launched in the US and Canada this coming May.

One of the possible reasons for the rescheduling of its release is the launch window of Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The BlackBerry KEYone has a massive job waiting for it ahead. It is too early to say that the latest offerings from Samsung would be a great hit in terms of sales. However, it is safe to say that the KEYone will not get near the Android king's numbers. Although the QWERTY keyboard will have an impact to a certain group of users, the premium price and the not-so-premium-specs will be one of the major drawbacks of the upcoming device.
