Xiaomi Mi 6 Release Date, Specifications & Price [VIDEO]; A Plus Version Of The Xiaomi's 2017 Flagship Is In The Works?
Vinay PatelThe rumor mill has been churning all sorts of speculations around Xiaomi's 2017 flagship, which many believed would be unveiled at this year's MWC (Mobile World Congress), but regrettably, that wasn't the case.
Multiple sources attributed the delayed launch to Snapdragon 835 shortages, while a slew of other rumors pointed to the arrival of a Snapdragon 821 version first, with a Snapdragon 835-powered model coming next. These rumors will finally be debunked in near future when the Beijing-based handset maker will take the wraps off its next flagship dubbed, the Xiaomi Mi 6.
Xiaomi Mi 6 Release Date & Specifications
Just days ahead of its scheduled April 19 launch, the Xiaomi Mi 6 has made an appearance on GFXBench (via GSM Arena), giving the public a peek at the aces the device packs under its hood. Let's take a gander at the upcoming flagship's purported specifications.
First off, the Xiaomi Mi 6 could sport a 5.1-inch 1080p touchscreen, which doesn't really sound impressive; but fret not, there's more for tech buffs to cheer about. On the photography front, it sports a 12MP camera with 4K video recording and an 8MP front shooter that's capable of capturing 4K videos as well.
Under the hood, the Mi 6 could be packing Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset, paired with either 4 or 6GB of RAM based on the model you go for when the Mi 6 hits the store shelves. Moreover, it is expected to offer either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. With the MIUI skin atop, the Mi 6 will be running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Plus, the Mi 6 could also be IP68-certified, PhoneArena reported.
While the Mi 6 seems to boast an array of awe-inspiring specs, TheVerge pointed to a bunch of other leaks that suggests Xiaomi is hard at works on a 5.7-inch Mi 6 Plus model that could come with a slew of even better specifications. And although details about this Plus variant are hard to come by, more shreds of information are likely to surface ahead of the Mi 6's launch.
Minimization of screen bezels is the latest fad for 2017, which was triggered by Xiaomi with last year's Mi Mix, and brought to smartphone enthusiasts across the globe by LG and Samsung's new Android flagships this spring.
If Xiaomi does not decide to deviate from that trend, the 5.1-inch Mi 6 could turn out to be the most compact option in the market. It's worth noting that among the other devices announced with the Snapdragon 835 chip i.e. the Galaxy S8 and Sony's Xperia XZ Premium; the Xiaomi Mi 6 will have the smallest display.
Xiaomi Mi 6 Price
The upcoming Xiaomi flagship is likely to carry a starting price tag of CNY 1,999 (about $289), which could go up from there, all the way to CNY 2,699 (about $391) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version.
