iPhone 8 Latest News: Apple Reportedly Developing Own Custom Battery Power Management Chips
Keisuke AkioApple is allegedly developing its own battery chips for iPhones. According to reports, the company is doing this step to take more control of their hardware.
According to an industry analyst, through Reuters, Apple is said to be mounting its personal power management chips, which will be intended for iPhones and iPads. Elaboration on the report from Bankhaus Lampe stated that the Cupertino-based company is considering replacing PMIC component with its customized silicon. Presently, this component is supplied to the company by Dialog and it is expected to change when 2019 comes.
It was also noted by the analyst that Apple is currently being intensive in employing engineers coming from the third party supplier. Out of this, the company created a substantial group of hired workers for the power management chips which is Apple-designed. Additionally, Apple is also said to have customized GPU intended for its iOS devices within the two-year span of time.
The role of a power management chips is to manage the voltage and charging all over the components in the device. More often iPhone users complain the battery longevity of their device and it just a wise move for the company to invest more in this aspect and replace the parts for maximum performance, says 9to5 mac.
It was said by Apple that the company has the desire to make core technologies that go hand in hand with the product. Through this, the device that the company may produce can have a competitive edge in the market. Apple has started the customizing and designing on its own silicon for the CPU chips. These are for A6, A7, A8, A9 and A10 series.
It is also said that the chip produced by Apple is 64-bit chips ahead and this would mean that the devices produced by the company would exceed all of its Android competitors gauging from benchmark according to their performance.
Because of the news that components from Dialog will no longer be of use, the share price on the stock market of the company fell to about 20 percent. However, Dialog is claiming that Apple will not fully cut off their ties; this is according to a report from Barclays Research.
The report also added, that the Apple's team of engineers, which is comprised of 80 engineers, is just relatively small compared to 1,300 staff that Dialog has, says PC World. Another thing that Apple cannot avoid is that Dialog's workers have critical intellectual property. The research firm also noted that the reaction of some investors is out of panic and this was brought by coming out of the news so soon after the Imagination announcement. Although in reality, it has a different situation where Apple officially announced that it will no longer pay royalties within two years. The present issue on power management chips both Apple and Dialog have not announced anything regarding their plans in the future.
