Apple iPad Air 2 To Oust The Aged iPad 4? See Details [VIDEO]
Vinay PatelApple fans looking to change their fourth generation iPad will be able to get their hands on a newer and more adept iPad Air 2. The device will be up for grabs in Apple Stores and authorized service providers.
Those who purchased Apple's first iPad with the now-universal Lightning connector (which was released about five years ago) and need to get it fixed might be treated to a pleasant upgrade. If a memo acquired by 9To5Mac (via Engadget) is anything to go by, the Cupertino based tech titan has basically run out of stock of the now-defunct fourth generation iPad.
In the memo, Apple has even asked its staff to notify consumers about the color and capacity the replacement units come with. The iPad Air 2 is now available in gold color option. The iPhone maker removed the 16GB and 64GB models and has replaced them with 32GB and 128GB storage variants, TheHindu reported. In other words, consumers with either a 16GB or 64GB iPad looking for a replacement might end up with storage bump too.
Both the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 4 will be up for grabs in 32GB (base model) for the same price at $399 and $529 for the Wi-Fi-only and cellular versions, respectively. The 32GB model of the iPad mini 2 carries a price tag of $269. Apple has also slashed the prices of the 9.7 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, for both 128GB as well as 256GB storage options.
With this new launch, Apple is planning to rebrand the iPad Air and will be calling it just the iPad now. It's worth noting, though, the specifications of the iPad does not undergo a radical change. The only striking difference is the A8X chipset; the new 9.7-inch iPad will be packing a comparatively newer A9 chipset.
According to the latest update coming from AppleInsider (via TheVerge), the policy is not a global one: Apparently, ousting a fourth generation iPad in favor of an iPad Air 2 is not imperative, but up to the consumer's discretion.
