Sony Upgrades PlayStation 4 Slim Storage Capacity at No Extra Cost
Charles LimWith all the attention of the gaming community now on Nintendo's latest generation console, the Nintendo Switch, Sony is now offering an additional incentive for gamers to finally purchase a PlayStation 4 gaming system. Sony has now announced that they will be offering a slight upgrade to the slim version of its system, which will now offer 1TB of hard disk space instead of 500 GB.
According to The Verge, despite offering double the storage space this time around, the PlayStation 4 Slim will still be offered with the same $299.99 price tag. Sony announced that they will start shipping the newly upgraded units this week.

Getting twice the space for the same price will be a hard bargain to pass up, seeing as that a 500 GB Xbox One S will cost the same. The Xbox One with the 1TB hard drive is, of course, available for $349.99. Aside from the increased storage, Sony is also offering a slightly redesigned DualShock 4 controller for the PlayStation 4 Slim.
According to BGR, every other component found in the console will still remain the same as the original PlayStation 4 Slim. Those who want to have a little bit more performance for their PlayStation 4 games can opt to purchase the PlayStation 4 Pro, which currently retails at $399.99.
The Pro version is of course much more suited to those who have already bought a new 4K TV. The PlayStation 4 Pro offers built-in support for 4K games and 4K movies, which is partly thanks to its beefier internals. Gamers with full HD TVs can still take advantage of the additional performance as games will be running smoother and better on the newer console.
It also has to be noted that both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro can be upgraded manually with a much larger hard drive or even an SSD. This means that it might be a good idea to just wait for the 500 GB models to be heavily discounted when the 1 TB models start to come out.
