Verizon announced on Monday, Oct. 8, that it would exclusively offer the Samsung Galaxy S3 in two new color options, Amber Brown and Sapphire Black, and now the carrier has made good on its promise.
When the Samsung Galaxy S3 launched a couple of months back, it came in two unique colors: Marble White and Pebble Blue. AT&T later started offering a Garnet Red Galaxy S3 for the 16GB model. More neutral and resilient colors, however, were not available until now.
The Amber Brown and Sapphire Black Samsung Galaxy S3 models are now available from Verizon with the same specs and price tags as the original models. When it comes to smartphones, however, exterior styling is often a crucial factor.
It is worth noting that only the 16GB version of the smartphone appears to be available in the new black and brown color options. Also, while the black Galaxy S3 is available from any Verizon store, the Amber Brown model resembling wood texture seems to be an online exclusive. Both models are available for purchase on Verizon's Web site, for the same $199 price tag on a two-year contract with the carrier.
Except for the new color options exclusive for Verizon, the new models pack the same specs as the original versions. That means a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats. The smartphone sports a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display, as well as support for 4G LTE and NFC, and is powered by a 2,100mAh battery.
Since the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the best-selling Android smartphone of all time, it makes sense for Samsung to offer as many options as possible to capitalize on its success. In addition to the new Amber Brown and Sapphire Black color options, Samsung has also launched a smaller version of the handset for those consumers who were holding back because of the handset's size.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini sports a smaller, 4-inch display, which makes it easier to fit in a pocket. On the other hand, the smaller size also means some downgraded internals to fit the form factor. Nonetheless, consumers always welcome more choices, and the Samsung Galaxy S3 is now available in more colors and two form factors. Which will it be?
