Smartphone market leader Samsung could well be on its way to pull a fast one over rivals by launching the ultimate smartphone, which is a combination of two of its best-selling devices. Rumor has it that Samsung is going to release a new smartphone, dubbed the Galaxy Grand, which is an amalgamation of the company's hot sellers Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.
Per reports, the Galaxy Grand or the Baffin (BAFFIN-SHV-E270K/SHV-E270L) as it has been codenamed, is slated to launch by November end. The smartphone is reportedly a Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 hybrid and will offer consumers the best of both worlds.
South Korean publication MT has learnt from reliable "industry sources" that Samsung will soon take the wraps off its Galaxy Grand. The device it is rumored will resemble the Galaxy S3, but will be a bigger version though not quite as big as the Galaxy Note 2.
The Galaxy Grand will note be the company's flagship device and is apparently targeted at older users who would prefer a bigger screen, which will assist them in reading easily.
"The Device is target for middle age users not Matures, who want to use bigger screen so that the letters on the screen can be visualized properly without any trouble. The device is the basic version of Samsung Galaxy SIII and Samsung Galaxy Note II, which also aims to target the entry level markets and domestic markets," noted technology blog TechKiddy.
Rumors indicate that the purported Galaxy Grand will sport a 5-inch WVGA display with 800 x 480 pixels resolution. A 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 processor will power the NFC-enabled device. The smartphone will also offer LTE support and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. A 2100mAh battery will likely fuel the device, which is anticipated to come with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. It is not known whether the smartphone will come equipped with a stylus i.e. the S Pen.
According to Android Authority, the smartphone is speculated to "retail for 800,000 won ($732), or 100,000 won ($92) less than what the Galaxy S3 costs in South Korea." The pricing contradicts the assertions that the device will be entry level.
It is not yet known whether the device will be released in the international markets or will be launched only in South Korea initially. With Samsung yet to make any official announcement, one can only wait and watch, but judging by the conjectures, Samsung maybe onto yet another winner.
Would you opt for the Galaxy Grand over the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2?
