After several unwarranted delays, the much-touted first-ever Windows Phone 8 (WP8), Samsung's ATIV S, is finally set to hit the Canadian shelves on Dec. 14.
The ATIV S recently went on sale on T-Mobile in Austria on Dec. 10, but it seems that consumers in other parts of Europe have to wait a while before they can lay their hands on the Windows-powered ATIV S smartphone.
Earlier in December, Samsung Canada had confirmed that the ATIV S would ship in Canada by mid-December, in time for Christmas. Now, per a Mobile Syrup report, the ATIV S will be available for purchase on Canadian carrier Bell from Dec. 14
"The Samsung ATIV S was first Windows Phone 8 device to be announced, but last to be released. This Galaxy S III reminiscent device will finally make it's way to Canadian soil on Friday, December 14th. We're hearing similar availability from all carriers like Rogers and TELUS, but the above screenshot is from Bell's internal system. The prices, as expected, will be $79.95 on a 3-year and $599.95 outright," reported Mobile Syrup.
Per Mobile Syrup, carrier TELUS' internal document also reveals that the ATIV S will release on Dec. 14; however, the number of devices available is likely to be limited as the document states" Due to the popularity of the Samsung ATIV, device quantities are limited."
The ATIV S was announced at the IFA 2012 in August this year. The smartphone sports a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2300mAh battery,
Canadian carriers TELUS, Bell, Rogers, and SaskTel are slated to offer the ATIV S. An unlocked version of the ATIV S is expected to set consumers back by $599.95, whereas getting the smartphone on a three-year contract should cost $79.95.
