A woman trying to buy too many iPhone 5's from a New Hampshire Apple store was tasered by police outside the store.
Apple is well known for keeping a limit on the number of devices a customer can purchase. Xiaojie Li, a 44-year-old woman of Newton, Massachusetts, wanted to gift the latest iPhone 5 handsets to relatives in China and visited the Apple store in the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua where she was told that she cannot buy more than two handsets.
On Friday, Dec. 7, Li had already bought two iPhone 5 handsets from the Pheasant Lane Mall Apple store and on Tuesday, Dec. 11, she returned to the store to buy a few more units of iPhone 5. Apple staff advised Li that she had reached the two-per-customer limit. Li, however, believes that other customers at the Apple store bought more than two smartphones. However, the Apple store manager asked her to leave.
Li said she did not under understand what the manager was saying, following which the store manager asked a police officer within the mall to escort her out.
Captain Bruce Hansen of the Nashua Police Department said that Li resisted being escorted out, which prompted the officer to taser Li.
"So then the police took my mom's phone and tried to take my mom's bag. And my mom tried to ask them why, and they just threw her to the ground," said Li's 12-year-old daughter who was at the scene.
Apple products sell like hot cakes and are sometimes sold at inflated prices in overseas markets. As such, the company limits the purchase of certain iDevices to two per customer.
Apple officially sells iPhone 5 in around 100 countries and with the increased demand of the iPhone 5 it should not come as a surprise if the list grows further in the near future.
The popularity of iPhone 5 is not a secret; but is an iPhone 5 worth getting tasered? Leave your comments below.
