Crime is on the rise in New York City and Mayor Michael Bloomberg is blaming Apple. Mayor Bloomberg said that a reason for the rise in crime in New York City is due to an increase in thefts of Apple's products.
Bloomberg revealed on his weekly radio show that crime is up 3.3% compared to last year and if it weren't for the spike in Apple related thefts the city's crime rate would be down for the year, according to The New York Times.
Mayor Bloomberg said Apple products appeared to be the hot favorite of many thieves, while also noting he was not including thefts of competing devices like the Samsung Galaxy in his count.
I'm sure that comment has to bother Samsung on some level, being left out and even referring to competing devices like "the Samsung Galaxy" sounds like Mayor Bloomberg hasn't been keeping up with the proper terminology when it comes to non-Apple devices. That's forgivable as he has more important things to remember like running New York City than the many names of "the Samsung Galaxy".
The Mayor went on to offer some useful advice to listeners to avoid thefts of their Apple products:
"Put it in a pocket in sort of a more body-fitting, tighter clothes, that you can feel if it was - if somebody put their hand in your pocket, not just an outside coat pocket."
