Who would of thought that a Xbox 360 game with probably the worst graphics in modern video games could become extremely popular? No one, and that's one of the reasons why Minecraft is so special.
Minecraft on the Xbox 360 managed to amass 5 million in downloads on Xbox Live in 2012, according to Daniel Kaplan (now, don't ask who is he) on Twitter. This is an incredible feat for game that no one expected would amount to much. The sheer amount of fun and difficulty this game brings to the table is the main reasons why it turns out to be a success on Xbox Live Arcade.
What is Minecraft all about?
The game is based in a world where the player has the ability to build whatever that comes to mind. Building a shelter is crucial in Minecraft, as when night falls, creepers come out into the dark along with other monsters with the intent to take you down. The game is of the open world variety, so expect the land to be huge and filled with all sorts of madness that will excite you, and kill you in the same breath.
Minecraft first gained recognition when it was released for the PC in 2009. Android and iOS versions of the game was released in 2011, while the Xbox 360 and PS3 had to wait their turn until 2012.
Apart from achieving 5 million downloads on Xbox Live Arcade, the game managed 17.5 million units sold overall across all platforms, which include the first Xbox. With E3 2013 coming up in June, it would be interesting to see what the developers have in store for us next.
