China-based ZTE recently took the wraps off its 5-inch Grand S smartphone at the CES 2013 and the similar-sized Nubia Z5 in December 2012. Now, reports suggest that the company is going to one-up these smartphones and has a ginormous 6.3-inch phablet, dubbed the Nubia Z7, in the works.
The report comes courtesy GizChina which managed to get its hands on leaked images and specs of the Nubia Z7 behemoth.
"The CES launch of the 6.1-inch Huawei Ascend Mate also marked the time I thought to myself "phones can't get any bigger", but just hours later I'm forced to eat my words as ZTE are planning a 6.3-inch Nubia Z7!" reported Andi Sykes of GizChina.
The ZTE Nubia Z7, the report suggests, will be a beast of a device and the 1080p resolution is set to be old hat considering the device's 6.3-inch screen (hold your breath) has a whopping 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution. Hankering for more? Well, the Nubia Z7 is not only set to make the 1280 x 720 pixels resolution of the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate look below par (which it is considering the display size), but also the processor.
The rumored specifications point to an eight-core processor that is clocked at 1.4GHz, ensuring that the quad-core devices become a thing of the past. The Nubia Z7 phablet is also believed to pack in 128GB of on-board storage, a 16-megapixel primary camera, Mali T658 GPU, 4000mAH battery, and LTE connectivity.
Can it get any better? Yes it can, as the device will allegedly pack in Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie to boot!
The specifications sound a tad far-fetched and suspiciously similar to those for Samsung's rumored 6.3-inch Galaxy Note 3. What's more, Samsung recently took the wraps of the Exynos 5 Octa, the first 8-core mobile processor (two sets of four cores), which is speculated to power the upoming Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 smartphones from the company. It is likely that this processor will first make it to Samsung's own devices rather than another company.
Even GizChina seems to smell a rat as Sykes noted "I'm confused at if this is an actual leak, of if someone has just spoofed us with their dream Nubia phone!"
With companies taking the bigger smartphone route, the notion of a 6-inch plus device materializing isn't farfetched as Huawei's Ascend Mate just proved a few days back. However, such a device would work out to be expensive; whether a company like ZTE has the resources to produce such a device remains questionable, especially given how price-sensitive the Chinese market is and focuses mostly on budget-friendly smartphones.
