Sony launched its Android-based smartphones Xperia Z and Xperia ZL at the 2013 International CES and a previous report indicated that both the devices will be available to Canadian users. However, now, a recent report indicates that the Xperia Z will not be making its way to Canada after all.
Sony showed off the Xperia Z at the CES 2013 and bragged that the smartphone is both dust- and water-proof, making it one of the first smartphones with these features. However, the Xperia ZL, sporting nearly identical hardware specifications is not dust or water resistant.
Per Sony's twitter feed "both Z and ZL will be coming to Canada."
However, Mobile Syrup has now reported that per an e-mail from Sony, the Xperia Z may not be initially launched in Canada. It does not rule out, however, the fact that the Xperia Z may be available at a later date.
"Everyone is really excited about the week we've had at CES. A global representative made an error regarding Canadian product availability. At this time we can confirm that Canadians will be receiving the Xperia ZL as previously announced, but we have nothing to announce about the Xperia Z availability in Canada at this time. We will share more news on future products as they are confirmed," noted the Sony e-mail to Mobile Syrup.
Prices and release date of the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL have not been released by Sony.
It may come as disappointing news for many Canadian customers that the flagship Xperia Z may not arrive in Canada soon. But take heart - it doesn't mean that it's not going to available in Canada at all.
