Tired of typing on a virtual keyboard? It's time you pick this physical keyboard, which is super-thin that you wouldn't feel like carrying a different device. Adding a new product to its accessory lineup, Archos has unveiled a new ultrathin Bluetooth keyboard designed for the Apple iPad. The keyboard measures just 5 mm thick and weighs 240 g and when attached to an iPad, it measures just 13.4 mm thick, making it the thinnest and lightest keyboard available today.
This magnetic Bluetooth keyboard fits second, third and fourth-generation iPads and has a full QWERTY keyboard. In addition, the device has an adjustable kickstand with which you can alter the screen angle on your iPad, so that you can have a proper position for typing or viewing video on the device.
The back of the case is made of brushed aluminum and the keyboard wakes up and sleeps automatically when reattached from the iPad. The magnetic docking helps the iPad dock perfectly to the keyboard.
"The needs and wants of today's consumer have changed drastically over the past few years. Consumers expect everything to be smaller, faster, thinner, lighter and aesthetically pleasing," says Henri Crohas, Founder and CEO of ARCHOS. "In order to meet this demand we feel that we should share our innovation and design across a number of different platforms."
The company did not specify the exact battery life but said the keyboard can last for months with single charge. Archos ultrathin keyboard is priced at $79 and will be available from March.
It wasn't so much an anticipated move from Archos to come out with an iPhone accessory given the fact that the company makes quite a few Android tablets. Understanding the market opportunity to have a separate division solely for products that are not Android related, the company effected a split of division creating what it calls Archos Design, which now developed the aforementioned keyboard for the iPad. "The Bluetooth Keyboard for iPad was created by a new division in ARCHOS that will be dedicated to sharing ARCHOS innovations with other brands," the company said in a press release.
