The next PlayStation from Sony is hardly ever out of the news and that trend continues as new information is again flowing about the new gaming console.
Per reports, anonymous sources say that Sony is aiming to expand the console's social features, and will now, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, allow users to share achievements via social sites like Facebook and Twitter, and also upload gameplay footage to YouTube.
Although, to an extent, these features are already present on the current generation PlayStation 3, it is expected that Sony will be working on these features for better output in the future.
The new reports also sync with a previous WSJ report that stated Sony is planning to "incorporate more social gaming aspects into the new machine," and that the company is generally focused more on "changes in how users interact with the machine" rather than spec improvements.
“In a nod to the changes afoot in the industry, Sony is planning to incorporate more social gaming aspects into the new machine, people familiar with the matter said. Also, while hardware improvements were a key focus of past console upgrades, Sony is more focused this time on the changes in how users interact with the machine, these people said,” the earlier report stated.
The new report, however, also adds information about Sony's plans for extra features, and how the company intends to make full use of the recently acquired cloud gaming service Gaikai.
Sony head Kaz Hirai, per The Verge, “led the deal to buy the company, and the Journal has reiterated that the new PlayStation would work through a combination of optical disks and streaming.”
The sources also suggest that Sony's new console may also offer players the option to compete against others using different hardware, such as smartphones and other portable devices.
“It's not specified how this will work, but it's possible it refers to streaming multiplayer games onto other platforms, something that was initially a selling point for cloud gaming,” The Verge adds.
Currently, it looks to be in the cards that Sony will officially unveil the next generation PlayStation on Feb. 20, as the company has asked everybody to come and “see the future.”
