With the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One officially unveiled, the Android rumor mill is now turning to the much-hyped Google X Phone made by Motorola.
While the X Phone did not receive any official confirmation yet, Google executives did drop a few subtle hints concerning the handset's existence. As always, such hints are surrounded by lots of rumors, alleged leaks and speculation. Now, a new Google X Phone rumor brings more information about the future Motorola handset, including specs details.
A new report on Monday, March 25, from PhoneArena claims that the Google X Phone will pack high-end features including a 4.8-inch display boasting sapphire glass protection instead of the ubiquitous Gorilla Glass. The handset will also reportedly feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and a powerful 4,000mAh battery.
When it comes to launch date, PhoneArena claims that Google will unleash its X Phone sometime in November, just in time for the lucrative holiday shopping season. This trumps previous rumors suggesting a June or July debut.
The X Phone will also be water-resistant and sport an elegant carbon fiber case, with bumpers protecting its corners. On the other hand, as good as these details may seem, none of them can be confirmed at this point.
The report, however, makes no mention of customizable hardware. Previous rumors suggested that the Google X Phone will in fact be a line of handsets allegedly aiming to take on similar rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy line. Those same reports claimed that Google will allow users to customize certain hardware specs including ROM, storage and color.
Those customization features drew even more attention last week, when Motorola's Guy Kawasaki subtly implied in a short Google+ comment that future handsets could sport hardware customization options. A subsequent report from a separate source later said the X Phone will not be customizable.
If the new report proves to be accurate, the upcoming Google X Phone will pack top-notch specs that would clearly make it a flagship device. Previous rumors indicated the handset would be budget friendly, and considering the specs and price tag of the Google Nexus 4 it will be interesting to see just how budget-friendly a high-end X Phone can be.
At the moment, however, too many rumors making the rounds are painting quite a confusing picture rather than shedding light on the matter. More Google X Phone rumors will likely surface in time for the 2013 Google I/O developer conference, where the Internet giant may finally announce the smartphone.
