Sprint will be adding two new Windows Phone 8 (WP8) handsets to its network this summer — one from Samsung and the other from HTC.
The Samsung Windows Phone 8 smartphone is the Samsung Ativ S (GT-I8370), while the HTC handset is called the HTC Tiara and has yet to make its official debut.
The HTC Tiara will reportedly sport a 4.3-inch WVGA Super LCD 2 display, pack a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM under the hood, and offer 8GB of internal storage.
While the HTC Tiara is unannounced for now, it did leak by @evleaks over at Unwired View, detailing the aforementioned mid-range specifications. While the handset features mid-range specifications with no bells and whistles, it will be among the first devices to run Windows Phone 8 GDR2, the second update to the platform since it launched last fall.
On the other hand, it will not sport the same design language as the freshly-unveiled HTC One running on Android Jelly Bean. Other features of the HTC Tiara include dual cameras, with a 1.6-megapixel shooter up front and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera. The handset will pack a 1,800mAh battery.
When it comes to the Samsung Ativ S smartphone, Sprint will be the very first carrier to offer this particular handset. The Ativ S did not make its way to the States yet, and the U.S.-bound will reportedly sport slight changes on the exterior compared to the global version. Internal components, however, will remain largely the same.
For Microsoft, meanwhile, Sprint's launch of two new Windows Phone 8 devices means the range of major U.S. carriers offering WP8 smartphones is now complete. While Sprint previously offered its HTC Arrive Windows Phone handset back in early 2011, the carrier stayed away from Microsoft's mobile operating system ever since.
Both the Samsung Ativ S and the HTC Tiara Windows Phone 8 handsets will likely arrive on Sprint's network in May or June. Windows Phone 8 devices did not see any resonating success so far, but a wider range of available WP8 smartphones on the major U.S. carriers might make a difference in the end.
