Since the last BlackBerry reinvention, in which the company renamed itself from Research in Motion to BlackBerry and also announced the new operating system BlackBerry 10, everyone only has been talking about the BB 10.
However, according to the company's chief executive Thorsten Heins, he predecessor of the BlackBerry 10 still has much juice left in it.
When people were thinking that BlackBerry 7 has reached its retirement and there won't be any devices launched running on the OS from now on, a revelation from the company's chief executive have given hope to those still using BB7-based devices.
BlackBerry has no plans on missing out on the opportunity BB7 creates in developing markets, where new and expensive devices like BlackBerry Z10 will take time to reach.
"We want to give them a good BlackBerry experience. So this is where probably another BlackBerry 7 product in that range makes a lot of sense," Heins told The Canadian Press.
"We're not excluding those markets from BlackBerry 10 because of us wanting to sell BlackBerry 7. You will see both in coexistence for awhile in those markets."
Instead of discontinuing the devices running on BlackBerry 7 and putting all the efforts into promoting the devices like BlackBerry Z 10 and the yet to be released BlackBerry Q 10, the company is going to keep its brand in emerging markets with BlackBerry 7 devices that will be affordable for the consumers.
For markets like India, where people want to buy BlackBerry products but stay away from them just because of affordability, the move makes a lot of sense, as BlackBerry keeps its market presence as well as creates new opportunities for selling its upcoming and expensive devices.
BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry Torch and BlackBerry Tour are some of the BlackBerry devices that are quite famous and affordable for India BlackBerry fans. The price range of these phones is somewhere from Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000, whereas the first phone running BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry Z10, costs above Rs 50,000 in India.
