Rumors concerning the next-generation iPhone keep piling up, and new speculation from the Far East claims the handset will be available in multiple color options.
The iPhone is currently available in black and white color options, but the new rumor claims the supposed iPhone 5S will come in a total of eight different colors.
Japanese blog Mac Otakara cites a "trusted source" saying that the "iPhone 5S" will come in three color schemes when it finally hits store shelves, adding one more color to Apple's usual black and white models. The source did not mention what the third color would be. For those confused about the actual number of additional color options, worry not — so is everyone.
The Google translation on the Japanese blog's Web page states "3 colors added to 2 colors of iPhone 5," which would suggest the next-generation iPhone will be available in five color options. According to Apple Insider, however, that translation is inaccurate, and should state that "One new color would be added to the iPhone 5's existing two color options for a total of three colors."
As for the magical number eight, back in January, Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White said that industry checks led him to believe the "iPhone 5S" would come in eight color options similar to the ones for the iPod Touch: pink, yellow, purple, blue, green, silver and shades currently found on the iPod nano.
The new report, meanwhile, also claims the rumored low-cost iPhone will receive the color treatment as well, but adds no further details on the matter. Apple did not announce any entry-level iPhone model, but the Cupertino giant is expected to release such an iteration in a bid to compete with cheap Android handsets.
Back in March, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a great track record when it comes to predicting Apple's future plans, said the less expensive iPhone would sport a combination of fiberglass and plastic in order to lower build material costs. Kuo also believes the cheaper iPhone will maintain the same design as the iPhone 5, including the smartphone's 4-inch screen.
Lastly, the latest rumor from the Far East claims that Apple will likely introduce the next-generation iPhone, dubbed "iPhone 5S," along with the budget model sometime in July.
