Xiaomi managed to sell 200,000 units of its Xiaomi Mi2S smartphone in just 45 seconds, breaking a new record in terms of rapidly sold units.
Xiaomi may not be as famous as Samsung or Apple, but its name did make headlines a couple of times due to its high-end specs and feature-packed smartphones. The Chinese company's handsets proved to be quite popular, and the recent achievement of the Xiaomi Mi2S smartphone proves it.
According to online publication GizChina, no less than 200,000 units vaporized out of stock in just 45 seconds. While 200,000 units may not sound like much, such a rapid sell-out is certainly impressive.
What is so appealing about the Xiaomi Mi2S? Well, the handset sports some tempting technical specifications and could be a great hit with western customers. The Xiaomi Mi2S packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, boasting a 4.3-inch display with a 720p resolution.
The Xiaomi Mi2S comes in two models: a 16GB version with an 8-megapixel camera and a 32GB model with a 13-megapixel shooter. According to Xiaomi, its smartphone got a score of of 25,912 in AnTuTu benchmark test, which is better than the Samsung Galaxy S4 (Snapdragon 600 version), which scored 25,446. Considering that the Xiaomi smartphone has a lower-resolution display, these numbers might just be accurate.
Despite the fact that it packs some pretty impressive specifications, the Xiaomi Mi2S comes with an affordable price tag, which is likely what made it so popular. The 16GB version of the handset costs 1999 Yuan ($323.45), while the 32GB model costs 2299 Yuan ($372.25). For a quad-core smartphone allegedly faster than the Samsung Galaxy S4, that's an amazing price.
The Xiaomi Mi2S seems to have it all, and if things keep up like this, the phone maker might face some difficulties in keeping up with demand. Selling 200,000 units is nothing, considering the population of China, but selling out in just 45 seconds is dazzling. Xiaomi did not offer any details regarding a wider availability, but chances that the Mi2S will eventually hit North America or Europe are quite slim.
