The new smartphone from Google-Motorola, which was dubbed as the X phone, has been the most buzzed topic in the last six months, and finally the device has been confirmed.
At the All Things D's D11 conference, Motorola Mobility CEO Dennis Woodside confirmed that Motorola is coming up with a new Android smartphone this year and the device will be called Moto X. "We have a hero device that's coming out that's going to be called Moto X," said Woodside.
Although Woodside didn't go into the details of the smartphone's specifications, he hinted at some of the new features of the Moto X.
According to him, the device is going to "act differently every time you take it out from your pocket."
The Motorola chief also said that Moto X will be the first smartphone to be built completely within the U.S. Although the processor of the phone will come from Taiwan and the screens will be shipped from Korea, 70% of the manufacturing of the phone will take place in the campus that was earlier used for building Nokia phones in Texas.
An ABC News report stated that Motorola sees an advantage in building the Moto X at the new Fort Worth facility in Texas. "There are several business advantages to having our Illinois and California-based designers and engineers much closer to our factory. For instance, we'll be able to iterate on design much faster, create a leaner supply chain, respond much more quickly to purchasing trends and demands, and deliver devices to people here much more quickly," ABC News quoted Motorola as saying.
The company is reportedly going to hire about 2,000 people by August this year for the Moto X production.
The release date of the smartphone will be the same as mentioned in some earlier rumors - Woodside said that the phone will be ready for public release by October this year.
Woodside also revealed his humorous side by saying, "It's (Moto X) in my pocket, but I can't show it to you."
