Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update brings new features to HTC One (international version)

Alexandra Burlacu

The international version of HTC One smartphone reportedly started receiving an update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, along with improvements to HTC Sense 5.0.

The HTC One recently made headlines after a Google version of the device became official, promising to bring a pure vanilla Android experience to the high-end device. Besides the Google edition of the handset with stock Android, many rumors also anticipated an HTC Sense and Android 4.2.2 update for the handset.

The latest version of HTC's user interface (UI) in the latest Android 4.2.2 update is still 5.0, but it does sport a number of neat changes. U.S. owners of the HTC One, however, are still waiting for the update.

The HTC One is definitely one of the hottest devices currently available on the market, but one of the few issues is that it still runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, while the Samsung Galaxy S4 launched with Android 4.2. A new report from Android Revolution HD now details what's to come with HTC's OS update.

Along with this much-needed update, users of the HTC One international version can finally check out their battery percentage in the status bar by activating this option in the power settings. The power save mode, meanwhile, is no longer at the top of the notifications. Keep in mind that this update seems be just for some select versions of the handset so far, not the carrier versions.

The new update also seems to make some changes in the app drawer and dock areas. Users can now remove all apps from the dock, or push apps to the drawer while also keeping them handy in the dock. HTC Sense 5.0 previously did not allow leaving the dock bare. Users will also be able to enjoy Android-native sound profiles (EQS or equalizer controls), as well as the Android 4.2.2 Daydream feature. To check out EQS, just go to the upper right corner and tap the EQS icon to switch it on.

The update also brings more customization, adding an option to change what happens when holding down the Home button. Instead of only being able to access Google Now, users will now be able to long-press the Home button and change it to a menu button. This feature got high praise in custom  ROMs so far and this update adds it by default.

Keep in mind, however, that this is still unofficial, which means that the final build could look fairly different from this one. The user interface changes are also expected to unfold in a similar manner for the HTC Butterfly.
