Sony promised to people who bought its new Sony Xperia Z smartphones that the company will be rolling out an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the device soon after the release. However, the Japanese company took a little longer than expected to fulfill its promise to global customers.
Sony has reportedly released the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the Xperia Z device. The update is going to be available over the air (OTA) or it can also be flashed manually by using Sony's PC Companion software.
The information of the new firmware has not been put on Sony's official website, but according to Sony oriented blog Xperia Blog, the new firmware version 10.3.A.0.423 is based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
"We understand that the generic update is out in Spain and the Ukraine for the LTE model (C6603). Carrier customized versions are also out in Austria, Czech Republic and the Netherlands. A generic Taiwan update is also out for the HSPA+ version (C6602)," the blog states.
The Sony Xperia Z smartphone is yet to make its entry in the U.S. and rumors are suggesting that the device is going to head to T-Mobile's LTE network by July 15.
Last week, another report from Xperia Blog said that Australian carrier Telstra had mentioned the arrival date of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for Xperia Z smartphone on its handset update page.
The page showed that the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the Xperia Z was being tested by the operator as it has already reached. "The new firmware is expected be approved by July 1 and the public release of the firmware might take place on July 15," the report added.
The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for the Xperia Z has been in rumors for some time and in the same week, a video had also appeared showing features of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware on a Sony Xperia Z handset.
