The much-rumored Moto X now stars in a freshly-leaked video from Canadian carrier Rogers, giving a glimpse into the smartphone's capabilities.
The Moto X is one of the most highly-anticipated smartphones of 2013, as it will launch as the very first device from Motorola after Google acquired the company. Various leaks and speculations tried to paint a picture of what to expect, but a new video now provides more insight.
The video from Rogers Wireless appeared on Google+ user Дима Прокопенко's page, touting the upcoming Moto X. The video notes that the smartphone will be exclusive to Rogers in Canada. It makes no mention, however, of the customizable back plates expected to become available in the U.S.
According to the leaked video, the Moto X will be always listening for Google Now commands. Simply uttering "Ok, Google Now" will instantly have the phone ready to take a command. Users will not have to separately load Google Now or select voice operation.
"Moto X, the first smartphone from the new Motorola, is only available at Rogers. Your Moto X is ready to listen and respond," touts the video. "Talk to it, and it learns your voice. With the power of Google Now, it tells you what you need to know even when you're not touching the screen. To use your Moto X, you only need your voice."
Once the handset hears "Ok, Google Now," it will instantly respond with the required information or perform the required tasks, such as providing directions, setting alarms or reminders, or other Google Now functions.
The Moto X will apparently sport a very subtle notification system called "Active Updates." Basically, the phone will discreetly display notifications on the screen "instead of blinking lights that don't actually tell you anything." In other words, it quietly displays notifications without flashing a multi-colored notification LED.
Camera improvements, meanwhile, will apparently include a burst mode function that will allow users to take multiple shots simply by holding their finger down on the phone's display. Twisting one's wrist twice, meanwhile, will quickly launch the camera, without requiring users to select an icon or sliding to unlock. Users will be able to press anywhere on the touchscreen to take a photo.
Toward the end, the leaked video mentions that the Moto X will launch on Rogers in August, sporting two color choices: black and white. It also directs users to a Rogers product page for the Moto X, but the page doesn't seem to be active just yet.
The video has been marked "private" on YouTube. Rogers, the copyright holder, has also asked all sites that had published the video to take it down. Those interested, however, can still find the video as it originally appeared on Google+ (link in third paragraph).
