The HTC One Mini is yet to become official, but new photos and some leaks now paint a clearer picture of what to expect.
While the original HTC One is going head-to-head with Samsung's latest flagship, the Galaxy S4, the purported HTC One Mini is expected to challenge the Galaxy S4 Mini.
The HTC One Mini will reportedly come with the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board and pack a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.4GHz and Adreno 305 graphics, claims Android Next. The smartphone will also include 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, 12GB of which would be actually available to users.
Other leaked specifications of the purported HTC One Mini include a 4.3-inch HD display with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, as well as dual cameras. The smaller version of the handset will reportedly sport the same HTC UltraPixel rear camera found on the current HTC One flagship, while a 1.6-megapixel front shooter will allow for video calls.
It is intriguing, however, that the purported HTC One Mini will allegedly sport Android 4.2 and Sense 5. HTC recently announced it will no longer support the HTC One S with updates to the Android 4.2/Sense 5 combo because of its low-end hardware specs, but the purported HTC One Mini doesn't sport much of a boost in terms of hardware.
The HTC One Mini rumored specs are only marginally better than those of the HTC One S, so why pack one with the latest software and ditch the other in terms of support, blaming it on hardware?
The rumored processor on the HTC One Mini actually has a lower clock speed than the One S' - 1.4GHz compared to 1.5GHz. That leaves GPU as the only major hardware difference between the two devices: the One Mini will allegedly pack Adreno 305, while the One S has Adreno 225.
In terms of display, the purported HTC One Mini will have the same screen size of 4.3 inches as the One S, but with a resolution bump from qHD to 720p.
Android Next claims to have received the screenshots from a user who got his hands on an internal carrier testing device. The publication's "informant" also reportedly mentioned that the One Mini is fairly similar to its bigger brother, the flagship HTC One.
