Sony's latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1, will hit all major UK carriers over the next few weeks, so here are carriers' incentives to attract customers.
As usual with a highly-anticipated device that will be available from several sources, most operators are trying to get an edge over their rivals and offer attractive incentives to lure in more buyers. Such incentives typically include the Sony SmartWatch 2 or Sony DSC-QX10 offered for free when purchasing the smartphone on a new contract, but there are also other offers.
Sony UK has its own promotion for interested buyers looking for a SIM-free bundle, offering a SmartWatch 2 with a metal strap when pre-ordering the Xperia Z1 , which comes with a £599 price tag. Here is what others have to offer:
EE
The operator is throwing in a free Sony SmartWatch for those who agree to a new contract. EE has several 24-month contract options starting at £26 per month, which means £239.99 upfront for the smartphone, and going up to £51 per month, which leaves £9.99 to pay upfront. Find the offer at this link.
O2
Customers who pre-order the Sony Xperia Z1 from O2 will also get a free Sony DSC-QX10, but the offer is only good with a monthly contract via the operator's Refreshed plans. No PAYG options seem to be available.
Orange
Since Orange is part of EE, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that it's also offering a free Sony SmartWatch 2 with the purchase of an Xperia Z1. Plans start at £10.50 per month, which means £319.99 upfront, and go up to £52 per month with £29.99 upfront.
T-Mobile
The same applies for T-Mobile, which is also part of EE. Interested buyers who preorder a Sony Xperia Z1 from T-Mobile will also get the same offer as with EE and Orange, i.e. a free SmartWatch 2. Plans start at £7 per month and £389.99 upfront and go up to £62 per month and £9.99 upfront.
Three
The carrier doesn't seem to have the smartphone up for online orders just yet, but it does have its own offer in place: a pair of Sony NFC One-Touch BTN200 headphones for free with Xperia Z1 pre-orders. The offer may be available only in stores or by telephone.
Vodafone
Vodafone has also confirmed that it will be offering the new Sony Xperia Z1, but it has yet to offer any additional details regarding pricing or potential promotions. The company may post more information on its blog.
Carphone Warehouse
When it comes to retailers, Carphone Warehouse is joining the promotional dance and is offering a free Sony DSC-QX10 for customers who pre-order the Sony Xperia Z1. Keep in mind, however, that this offer only stands for those who purchase the smartphone on contract or upgrades. The retailer is also offering the SIM-free handset for the full price of £549.95. Customers may also be interested to know that Carphone Warehouse has the exclusive on the purple Sony Xperia Z1.
